Job description
As our Engineering Manager for the Data Enablement Team, you are a player-coach. Your mission is to lead a high-caliber team of Data Engineers in building our Centralized Data Lakehouse from the ground up. We are moving away from fragmented data silos towards a unified, high-quality Data Product architecture.
Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and hire a team of Data Engineers.
- Own the delivery of our Data Roadmap.
- Ensure successful rollout of Medallion architecture on Databricks and AWS.
- Drive initiatives to optimize storage costs and implement automated data retention policies.
- Ensure alignment with Zalando Group standards while maintaining speed and independence.
- Oversee Unity Catalog implementation for security and governance.
Requirements
- Strong background in Data Engineering with leadership experience.
- Experience with modern Lakehouse architectures (Databricks/AWS).
- Ability to challenge the status quo and prioritize effective solutions.
- Clear communication skills for translating technical challenges.
- Experience in navigating large group ecosystems is a plus.
